Thumbs up Englanders-Leven Spider

Hi Guys

If you have not got any of these in your fly box you are missing out BIG TIME !

I would not be without it anywhere from the wildest Loch to your local put and take stocked fishery, its a killer either fished on point of 1st dropper but personally i only use it in size 12 which has proved deadly over and over

Tied in size 10 i had very little success............ so i stopped using it !

A simple and deadly pattern, my variation

Hook: B175 (barb crushed)

Tail: Uni- floss neon chartruese x 3 (back rubbed to fluff it out)

Rib: Gold wire

Body: Gold flat tinsel

Hackle: Rook (split in half)

Thread: Uni Fire -orange 8/0 (forms small hot head)

Tie some, try some, you will never be with out them ever again

Hi Guys

I stumbled across this pattern reading Stan headly book, i had some scraps on the table and wanted to tie a quick simple fly ..........i had all the bits except black hen (original tying) but had rook handy so simply used it ! It worked so well i've stick with rook/crow its much softer than black hen and more grey-black i really love it Great stuff for clyde spiders too

I used chartreuse floss for the tail instead of green (orignal tying) again it worked so well im loathed to change.

I tend to fish it on the point on a floater with a 12 ft leader from the float tube although during a very hard day i had a 2.5lb brownie out of Loch earn when fishing an intermediate line deep and slow fig 8, only fish of the day !

Pulled faster it gets the brownies going, fished static or slow fig 8 its slaughters rainbows be it the feral rainbows of Loch earn or your local stockies.

I use just about any rook/crow feather from the neck to the tail......... there a huge amount of there boby feathers are suitable for spider's. When i say spilt i simply mean rip the feather in half from the central stork before you tie in the tip. Otherwise i feel you get a cluttered hackle ............but that just how i like them. Hope ive covered all questions ??

Savage nice tie .........but you seem to have a horrible sharp bit sticking up just behind the point
