Default Best thread for splitting ?

Hi all.
What is a good thread which I can split and use for dubbing please? I am using uni thread at the moment. I find if I use a dubbing loop, it is a bit bulky.
Having said all this, I am new to tying, so it is probably more my bad technique than anything !!
Thanks for the help.
Gary.

Don't think you will find much better than UTC thread. Make sure you un-spin the thread from all the turns you naturally put in from tying before trying to split it then re-spin it back up after you have put the dubbing in.

There are lots of options, but for a strong, but fine thread, try Sheer 14/0.

I found that those threads that are made out of two strands wounds together (I think cobweb is one) are easy to splitt

Default Splitting thread

Hi

All the aforementioned threads are excellent for splitting. Another one to try is Danvilles flymaster. good strong thread and splits easily.

Note that it's not impossible to split the UNI, it's only harder to do

As for the best thread for splitting, take a pick in the list above...

What are you actually trying to dub ?

Most threads available are exactly the same stuff - merely alternately packaged .

Let me know I may have a far easier way .

WOW ! 5 replies, 5 options !
So it seems I can use anything, apart from the one I have.
I see that the Flytying boutique are doing a set of 10 Gordon Griffiths 14/0 treads for under £12, so I might give that a go.
Thanks for all the help.
Gary.

Well Steve, as I said, I am new to tying, so I am only trying to start on basic flies. So obviously a GRHE is on my hit list. I am feeling very clumsy and my fingers feel like tree stumps, and consequently my attempts are thus far quite "chunky". So far the smallest hook size I have tried is a 12 ! How I will ever get to tie on a 20 is beyond my comprehension at present !
I know it will come with time, but it seems that dubbing in general is something I am having difficulty with.
It may be I am using too much dubbing material. I have practiced with Hares fur, seals fur, with similar results.
As I said, if I use a dubbing loop, it seems bulky to me.
Maybe I should join a club or something and get some help !
Regards,
Gary.
