Default Snow shoe hair

Inspired by North Country Angler and Urbanflyfisher I have had a wee go at these.
My question is this,
photo 1 shows the wing light and centered, even slightly back
Photo 2 heavier and sloping forward.
Which one is better, does it matter, or are they both rubbish?

I am going to try the snowshoe against the CDC and see what works the best.
£5.50 for 2 feet, would you say that was expensive?
Must be able to tie hundreds of flies from each foot.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi maharg
Snowshoe have some advantages,it is easy to dry and also it is easy to put some floatant on it.Literaly you can make hundreds of flies and so it is not expensive comparing to CDC.
But,everybody say about CDC only that CDC flies float good.....they forgeting that CDC give to fly bit of movement....

I think they both look good Graham at the end of the day it depends on how much you want the body of the fly to sit in the water.

Graham,

Lovely ties! You may find the first one sinks a little quickly though. The density of fibres on the second is about right - a cracking wee fly.

Yeah, funny stuff, the snowshoe. Not the easiest stuff to tie with; success seems to depend on getting a blend of longer guard hairs and the finer stuff beneath.....without having too bulky a pinch to tie in neatly. And its short staple makes this difficult to adjust easily. I hate the stuff, but I love it aswell if you know what I mean!

Its the first time I have used it. Normally work with CDC or a wee bit of foam.
Dont find it to bad to work with. I have been keeping the underfur, might make a nice dubbing, what do you think?

this stuff floats like a cork and then some ,,,and when ginked it just refuses to go under ,also try using it tied in a dubbing loop and wound round post for klinks its , i would say unbeatable and also try using it for some shuttlecocks as well as emergers and on and on,, it knows no ends,,,great stuff and not expensive at all if you consider how many flees from each foot.
