Thanks Falsecast. I've been doing my best with my little digi compact camera but have been struggling a bit. I have the text and photos for an SBS for this fly and am working on bringing them together.

Thanks for sorting the link out.

Oh yes I like that , I dress something similar using grizzle for the extended body and the hackle with cream hen wings ,works well on the Kennet ,but I like this one ,a tad more delicate than mine !!

Flying High,

The body and tail is a bronze mallard feather. The tip of the feather is cut out to form a V shape and then the rest of the feather is stroked back to form the body. A couple of fibres on either side form the tail.

This pattern is a development of the original single feather Mayfly pattern which uses the rest of the feather to form the wing / post. This one uses the natural feather colour which is good for me because most of the Mayfly on the bit of the Dove where I fish are white. To match the hatch on other rivers I've tied the same pattern with cream, green and light brown feathers.

I am hoping to post an SBS of it soon which shows the whole tie but I'm struggling with the IT stuff. It's not difficult tie but is quite an effective Mayfly pattern. Having said that, they're all effective at Mayfly time !!!

Cheers,

Dovebob

Nice pattern Rob. I'm a fan of the original tying in olivey hues... used to use it to great effect on the Wye just up the road... in the days when a rod a t mayfly time was just expensive, as opposed to F**kin stupid money I've done ok with it on stillwater too. I love the simplicity and the lines in this pattern - very graceful and sleek. They wiggle and roll quite naturally too when a breeze catches them. Easy to tie, fun to fish... and effective. Perfecto!
