Default Mystery MaterialFly swap

Lots of fly swaps recently, but thought of a new concept perhaps (apologies if it has actually been done before!) that mght be fun and something diferrent for new and experienced tyers alike.

How it would work:

1)Each participant sends in all the materials needed to tie say 10 flies of a particular pattern they have in mind. Also they email me a pic, or send the fly they tie for those materials
2) I then draw lots and send those materials out to a random particpant
3) Each particpant then does their rendition of the pattern, or uses those exact materials and no more no less to make something new.
4)All flies back in to me and i send 1 of each out as per a normal swap
5) I post pics of each fly, and also the fly the sender of materials had in mind
6) (optional) if we can get some donators of materials we can have a poll for most inventive tie and have a winner. Maybe even just for kudos, as a monthly event (i may be getting ahead of myelf here!)

Think it owuld be great for new and experienced alike to maybe tie something they wouldnt necessarily normally do, and also interesting for people to see what someone else does with the materials they have something diferrent in mind for.

Might help get those creative juicies flowing.

Ten names please?

Seriously though I think I will sit back and see how this one plays out . Great idea in theory , in practice I see the logistics being a nightmare

Do we actually need more patterns ? There has to be 15,000 out there if not double that for stillwater trout alone !

I use maybe in actual practise on stillwaters around 20 different patterns a season ( unless the days are seriously hard ! )

What is the point ?

best wishes

SP

You are absolutely right but this is a bit of fun and I only wish I wasn't in so many swaps at the moment otherwise I would join in this one.

So, everything has been done, and perfected, and we should stop thinking, experimenting, investigating new materials, new ways with old etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc...................?

I'm on board withyour 20 patterns logic Steve but I bet most of your '20' from 2009 were at least slightly different from the '20' you used in 1999.

All of the good patterns have resulted from inquisitive and creative fly-tiers experimenting and playing around with new materials etc so there is a point to this kind of idea.

Just wish I had the time to participate.
