Aye the more the merrier, all made welcome. Can see the night getting popular if the welcome, banter and helpfulness was as good as tonight! We should have started it in October, excellent way to fill the winter evenings!

When you get a chance, take a look at The FDG There's loads of help & advice out there. In my local branch, which has about 25 members only a handful either buy ANY of the fly-mags or have internet connections. So you may well find there are already members of the FDG in your area.

Default Fly tying (Irvine)

Hi Guys

Firstly there has been a branch of The FDG meeting in Dreghorn (1 mile from this new meeting) for approx 15 years. We meet on a Monday night in Townhead centre (opposite Annick Pub). WE have guest tyers regularly ((Davie McPhail) was there I posted notification of this 2 weeks past.
Why do these tyers who have suddenly started going to Irvine on a Thursday night not come to Dreghorn on a Monday. Go on tell me the reason. We cannot all smell surely.
The guys who turn up at Dreghorn are good guys and good crack is always aplenty. We cater for all levels of tyers and as THe FDG says we are there to promote the skills of fly tying. Intersted to read response to this.

To be completely honest: I tyed my 1st fly on Thursday night and felt confident enough to ask stupid questions, and wasn't even put of in the slightest when i got a slagging for putting a bead on the wrong way round or when i had more marabou stuck to the front of my jumper than i had on the fly.

I was able to do this as i previously new the majority of the people there, new that they would be supportive and that is probably the reason i went. I previously heard of the Fly Dressers Guild (FDG) only 2 weeks before, and again if i am totally honest, the name, on first appearance seems really formal and made me think that this was not for beginners.

I stand corrected: and on asking members from my fly fishing club, they confirm that it is a really good bunch of guys who go to Dreghorn on a Monday night, and that they are very helpful with beginners. If i didn't work late most Mondays, i would most certainly consider paying the membership and attending. Nothing at all personal and i am sure that there is nothing at all personal, why others in attendance on Thursday night haven't become members of the Dreghorn FDG.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

as far as your comments this is not a club we have started its just a few guys from the harbour lights flyfishers who attend and we certainly dont charge £20 to join all we ask is pay £2-50 towards the hire of the hall and you can drink as much coffee for free 1 or 2 guys also supply the materials for people to use and therse guys that are so helpful who would give advice and show the basics all were trying to do is get local guys into flytying even from people who have never started its just a bit of fun on a thursday and a good laugh is it such a big thing
