Default Heavy Head

OK, perhaps not my usual style

Often limited on hook size by regulations, biggish streamers or bugs are often out of bounds on some of my local streams. So I have tied some heavy streamer-style flies - but in a #14 hook. Whether they represent small fry (of which there are usualy many) or a good size nymph, they should be fun to try:

Hook: Partridge BIN #14
Thread: Hends Grall, dark olive
Tail: Downy fibres from Coq de Leon feather - tied around the hook
Body: Spectrablend, charcoal
Wing: Olive Zelon
Ballast: Dumbell eyes
Thorax: Hare, tied in split thread

I would'nt like that to hit the tip of any of my rods.
If I was to use one I think it would fish better if the eyes were inverted(less snags?)Materials look good but not sure about the eye proportions.

You're not wrong! Change the plain of the cast to suit - the belgian wind cast can be useful if you have space. But even with those eyes, a decent roll cast is still possible.

Difficult one with the position of the eyes. They will fish downwards - so eyes on top should keep the hook point up. But even if you did tie them inline with the point, you'll reduce your chances of hooking up as you reduce the space.

Eyes are indeed big - but that, I guess, is the point. Smaller hook, plenty of ballast.
