exactly, and thats probably why the other person went incommunicado , if feathers were gained illegally (not saying they were) he would be an accessory to the fact , as to the law on possession of such feathers i personally dont know if you can possess them legally from a found dead bird ??

Yes you can. If the heron was found dead, many perished in the recent prolonged cold weather.

It amazes me that people on this Forum get uptight about feathers of fairly common bird species, yet happily purchase the capes and feathers of endangered CITES protected species, such as Sonnerat's jungle fowl 'no questions asked' (insert nudge-nudge, wink-wink smiley) on Forum classifieds.

Dear Christian ,

I'm willing to bet that heron is a heavily protected species within the entire EEC .

Dyeing is easy - Picric and a bit of warm water . Drop in and pull out and wash thoroughly when desired shade obtained .

Picric maybe easier sourced in Germany - it is a bit of a beggar here what with it being a contact explosive and a known ideal trigger for cheaply made bombs !

Alternately you'd get seriously close with Veniard's Golden Olive Dye and some vinegar .

Pretend dyers with Picric tend to use Veniards standard yellow dye combined with Veniards Mid Olive ( just a touch ) and Turmeric food colouring !
My there are some rogues about !

If you're ever passing bring a plastic bottle and you never know what might happen

Steve Parton
