I looked at these on ebay, they look very nice.
I could find no company manufacturing hooks by that name so they are obviously a re-packaging job.
Now that all adds to cost as you need additonal bags printed to display your own logo rather than the hook makers.
If you take that into account then a good hook will probably cost around the same (or more) as any other quality hook on the market, cheap deals run at around £10 per hundred assuming the seller is taking the usual mark up. These at £1.25 for 50 hooks seem cheap. It may be a bargain but usually with hooks, cheap = lack of quality.
If anyone buys then i'd be interested to know how they get on.

Cheers

I have used those. I got some from flea bay . The Klinkhammer and czech / grub hook patterns. They seem to be a well made and nicely proportioned hook. No complaints from me so far....

Iv got some on the way they look alright, i dont expect them to be top notch but i expect them to be better than (royd hooks) never buy em
when i look for descent hooks they have to have a good touching downwards eye thats set straight
medium to strong temper and sharp non dulling points...then its all good
thats why i usually stick to kamasan, partridge, fulling mill and tiemco
if in doubt, leave it out

I know you can buy hooks cheaper than £10 a hundred, That said, in order to sell at £1.75 for 50 top quality hooks someone is taking a hit.
It is probably your retailer who is scratching away at his profit margins in order to stay in business.
This leaves an opening for companies like Royd who inject their products at cheap prices, reducing the income stream for proper retailers and manufacturers and driving the cost of good hooks down again.
Good for us, not so good for them as we grow to expect cheap products and when things get better don't want to pay an appropriate price.

Once market price drops so low as to be a non profit maker, then the manufacturers will change direction and fly hooks will cease to be made. If you look at companies like Mustad, they do not need to make hooks for fly fishing. They supply the saltwater fishing industry first and foremost, our end is a subsiduary bonus.

They still make Partridge Hooks but now that it is a UK owned brand name, will they still support it if (and when) Partridge ask them to reduce the cost of production because we tiers won't pay a reasonable price for Partridge hooks.

While RRP is often inflated by the producer of hooks and other products, the bottom line is that good quality hooks still cost the average tier £10 per 100,
For example Kamasan B100N at Sportfish 2.69 for 25
(Yes I know they are £6.99 per hundred from the same source)
Fly only on line TMC 102Y Dry Fly Hooks £3.65 for 20
Just two that I picked at Random.

Sportfish and the other major retailers are buying hooks in by the 10s of thousands so can afford to sell at a reduced prices for bulk.

In my experience as an instructor and teacher the average guy buys in packets of 25 not in hundreds. The average guy also goes into their local shop or orders from Sportfish , Glasgow Angling or Garry Evans because those are the names he knows and trusts, they must be good because they put catalogues into his magazines.

If any of the retailers out there want to reveal how much they pay per hundred thousand hooks I'd be very interested to know.

This forum is fortunate to have a number of very well respected trade members and a good network of infromation on where to shop and what bargains are about. Yet look at who contributes to this forum, perhaps 100 regulars? out of say 50,000 people who tie flies?

To answer the question what Hooks I buy , I buy Fulling Mill, Partridge and Varivas and no I don't pay £10 per hundred as I buy in boxes of 1,000 or packs of 10 x 25 depending on the hook.

Anyway, enough of my ranting, If you really want to get me going ask me about cheap flies!

Cheers
