Default Suspender Damsel ?

Hi Guys

Im my current quest to tie up and use dry flys this year ive been playing with suspenders Buzzer etc

Tonight i came up with this Suspender damsel ....................

Tied on a size 8 B170, olive marabou, tail gold oval rib, olive seals fur body, foam cylinder, and olive damsel partridge hackle.

Wonder what you guys reckon on it ??? i dont normally tie or fish these types of flies However ive a gut feeling that cast just off reed's and twitched it could prove fruitful ??

My advice would be to go down a size. Quite often damsel nymphs aren't as big as you'd think. A size 10 with the tail the same length as the body should do the trick. Also it's worth considering a "booby" approach to the buoyancy, it'll swim a bit better and the "eyes" add a bit of kick to the tail. Very effective on a fig 8 retrieve when they're taking nymphs in the top 2".

I would go along with what Midlander says as regards size of hook. I have had some success with a similar pattern but sporting a bunch of cdc feathers tied in shuttlecock style over the head rather than the lump of foam. Twitched back across the top this can be a very effective fly when the trout are after hatching damsels.

One of my pet hates is when some people pull out this huge fly and say its a Damsel. If yu have ever seen damsel nymphs sunning them selves prior to hatching you would totally change the way you view the lures that people call damsels. I have attached a photo to demonstrate my point. The Damsel came out of the little case that is behind it.
