I was fishing a lake many years ago and i witnessed sedges hatching which the fish had homed in on so i had a closer look to see what was happening. What i noticed i assume was the females laying their eggs in the water leaving a green hue as they did so.When i got home i looked up some books to see if i could find a pattern to fit the bill and found a Green Peter.
So with the egg laying i witnessed i produced this variant.
Hook; size12 up to a size 8 long shank
Tag; fluorescent wool
Rib; oval gold tinsel
Body; olive seals fur
Body hackle; natural red game
Wing; hen pheasant
Hackle; 2 natural red game
So after tying this pattern it was back up the next day, all i can say is instant success with 30 fish hooked and landed. From that day this pattern became an addiction and i tied it from a size 12 up to a large lure hook size 8 long shank it catches fish from February right through to October.
The small sizes cover anything from olives ,small sedges ,stone flies and umbrella flies, then larger sizes covered big sedges daddies and damsels. So my lure box and sinking line got forgot about as i mucked about with this pattern and Green Tags.
Ill put a green tag on anything these days.

Mucked about with the wing a bit putting grey and brown duck in and it dont have to be tidy i can tell you, and also dropped the body hackle and it still fishes as good.
What follows now is some pics of my addiction to green tags.
Size 10 no body hackle
Size 10 long shank/ brown mallard wing
Size 8 long shank/ grey mallard wing
Filling the old box 2day
As you have seen from pics there is not much safe from me adding a green tag, all to do with a sedge i seen laying eggs.
Well thats me on the tying front for a while, just time to stock up boxes with what i have and take a break for a while and maybe just do some reports on my success. Hope you enjoyed this as i have done using this method for some years now.
Cheers,
Geordie.
