Default Blae & Black

Blae & black must be the best ealry spring pattern for browns......this was the first winged pattern i tied .....shown from a master the late Benny McNaughton as i started we learned ....black spider ..then black pennell and put starling or duck wings you've got a blae & black ......a brilliant spring pattern thats stood the test of time.....fishing these use 3 on a cast

nice one hopper, great fly,
popular over here early season , always catches its fair amount of fish,

every fly box should have a few,

Cheers Liam 80's90's caught a fckin barrow load on this each season

still do mate, a great fly on sheelin last year and on owel, im sure on other loughs as well
now a days its all modern types of flies new patterns , differant materials etc, but its great to see a traditional type dressed fly , "one of the old stock" still outfishing other patterns at certain times of the year,

really cant remember the last time i fished one,must be at least 30years. ffs I'm getting old.

Nice fly Stevie, whenever I start to tie one of the older paterns I get an urge to tie in a sparkler wing, hence I only have about 20 traditional winged patterns in my box. I will need to try harder in future.
