Default DHE How'd i do ?

Hi Guys

Im trying to build a box of dry's as i normally use nymphs, wets and a few lures so tonight im having a crack at Deer hair emerger, on a size 12 Kamasan B100.

Not really too sure as to how much deer to use ??? I ginked them and gave them the "pint glass test" and it floated pretty well and gave a lovely profile. Not to sure how long they would float in a choppy loch

Not wanting to be critical, but I'd say you need a denser bunch of hair and to shorten the length on the wing by almost half. You'll find that it won't float long before the hook and tippet weight drag it under...and it will want to topple over on its side because the balance between the submerged and dry parts of the fly aren't in balance.

That said, your tying is lovely and neat, it's just a case of proportion and you've cracked one of the deadliest emergers ever devised!

Keep us posted,

M

Englander,

It all depends what or who you are trying to mimic - but for starters here is one which was tied by Bob Wyatt and given to me as a sample of how he likes them to look:

Or floating in the film:

I am sorry but I thought that if tiers exhibit their work that they want people to be critical. Englander I dont tie many flies so I am not saying I can do better but that fly of yours does look a bit ropey m8.

Below is an article form Bob Wyatt. Haven't read it in a while but I think he said that he intended the thorax to provide the flotation, so something like snowshoe rabbit would be great.

From ferns that drop their tears
Over the young streams.
Come away, O human child!
To the waters and the wild
With a faery, hand in hand,
For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.

Most welcome mate as are all comments, its not a pattern i've tied before so im looking for input to improve it, to get to a fish killer

I think my MK II will have a slighlty beefer "wing" and i will bulk up the dubbing infront and behind the wing.
