Default Down to my last two

I am down to my last two of a fly which I've had in my fly box for years. It was released if I remember correctly in a March edition of Trout and Salmon, around 10 years ago! It was then called the T&S nymph. I have had much success with it on trout over the years, and at the time I ordered about 20 from Carillon who sell flies and were commissioned by T&S to do so. Now I have lent several, and lost others over the years, but I find this fly works when others are failing and it would be a shame were I to not have any in my fly box.

I therefore am wondering whether anyone on here might be able to help me out and tie a few replicas for my fly box. I am quite happy to pay for these to be tied. If anyone has not seen this fly before, do feel free to give it a tie if you fancy, as I can vouch that it certainly does catch fish.

I appreciate this is an unusual first post, this looks to be an excellent forum and I look forward to contributing more in the future.

Welcome to the Forum.

Looks like quite a heavy number; should be quite easy to recreate when the thorax dubbing mix is identified.

looks simple enough

I'm guessing....

lime green antron tail
copper wire butt
hares fur thorax/body
gold bead
greenwells hen hackle

looks like a cheap hook......a B175 size 10 would be better..

Default Nice pattern-thanks !

Hi

Welcome to the forum Lots of great stuff and great guys here too. Thanks for sharing the pattern.

I really like that pattern, looks a killer had a quick bash with what i had at hand and came up with these............ im personally i like the partridge hackle better these are on B175 size 12, in hind sight and looking at your original picture i should have used a wee bit more hares ear dubbing.

Im sure you will find a some one here to help............i'll stick these two in my box to try later this season. If you get stuck drop me a PM

Thanks for the messages and welcome!

Following two very kind offers I shall be soon in posession of some replacements, which I'll be sending swimming in early february. It's hard to tell from photos, but I would say the tail is slightly more green rather than yellow Englander, but those ones look good. I hope you have as much success with them as I have had. It's a good idea to try it in 12 and I have suggested that to the two guys who are helping me out, although as someone said earlier, the original is definitely on size 10 hook, so I'm hoping to have a few of each to compare.

Carillon did an offer of the same fly with the tail in two other colours, bright orange and white/silver.I got a few of these to try out, but I wasn't able to replicate the success that I had with the green tail. I rang carillon but they had no record/memory of the t&s nymph. I don't know the publication stats of trout and salmon magazine, but with some many on the forums perhaps someone else on here has tried it. The following year they also released a new T&S nymph which was another goldhead with black and some red, however it was not as successful, it might be still knocking about the flybox, I certainly didn't lose it in the mouth of jaws!

Glad you got sorted, knew you would top guys here

The tail is Uni -floss chartreuse with out the "flash effect" it looks more green/yellow.

I used it instead of green for my leven spiders..........boy oh boy it killed em

I now use it for any pattern that normally uses green floss tails............
