Question Tying Tools

Just wondering if anyone knows if these are any good?

Dr. Slicks Gold Loop Fly Tying Gift Set

Need to get kitted out and seems to work out pretty reasonable. Any better alternatives for the same or less?

Mike

While the conventional wisdom is that kits are almost always cheap tat and a waste of money, I've always been very impressed with all the Dr Slick stuff I've used and that kit actually doesn't look bad at all, particularly not at that reduced price.

My eventual solution to sorting out a set of tools was to wander into Sportfish in Reading and ask them to put some together for me. Quite pleased with what I got.

I recently bought that kit and for the money itis excellent. Like the device to get the thread thro the neck of the bobbin holder. Scissors are sharp and blades quite fine for me. Whip finish tool is good though I prefer the stone fly one. I dont use the dubing needle and the box it is in holds the tools well. Good buy I feel

Hi Mike,
I use Dr Slick scissors and find them very good. The kit looks on the face of it good value, but I prefer to stay clear of kits myself. I like rotary hackle pliers and have only 2 weeks ago bought a hair stacker after about 9 years of tying (wish I'd splashed out the £3.50 sooner) I've only ever had a ceramic bobbin holder so would recommend on of these.
Hope you and the vice are getting on well.

Matty
