Default Arrrrggggghhhhhhh. I give up.

As a follow-up to tying dries upside down and the other way round I now know why it's not done. It's bloody impossible!

I've had the same hook in the vice all day trying to tie a CDC dun and have the remnants of a day's tying in my off-cuts pot.

Add to that I'd rather try and poke my eyes out with a marshmallow than stab myself with a dubbing needle again to split thread and on top of which all the cdc just falls out when I finally manage to get it off the blood on my finger and into the split that just took me half an hour to make.

When I finally got a fly off the vice ten minutes ago it looked more stupid than a than a three legged snake so I put it back in and stripped it clean.

This is a stupid hobby: I'm going to find one of my cheaper tools and stamp on it.

So if it's that much of a problem why bother? One thing is for sure - the trout won't know the difference or care in the slightest so why should you? I'm a great believer in the KISS principle. Keep It Simple Simon.

I used to be a great one for all the new fly patterns and tying techniques until I grew up and realised that for the most part you don't need complex patterns to con a trout. The only one being conned was me.

Ah Bob, some of us like a challenge and a bit of fun but the KISS principle is a good one ... you giving up fly fishing now then?

Traditionally - KISS = Keep it simple stupid!

I'M NOT GIVING UP! Well, not quite. I'm going to try tying it backwards, but the right way up. I think this is the breakthrough I was looking for..

I like it ... three back flips, twenty seven steps forwards ... a ten eighty and then sit down and tie one the old way

None of them very close though..

At least I have about a hundred million Griffiths Gnats tied up, so I'll have something to fish with at the beginning of the season.

I'm off to find the cat so I can tie another fly. I'm also going to go and Patent the Infallible Thread Splitter which I've just invented.
