Default Fly Fishing Club - Interested?

Hi Everyone

I live in Newbury Berkshire and Love my Fly Fishing but I can't find a club that caters for us in the area. This being said I think we need to start one. Personally I'd like to learn how to tie my own flies, find new waters to fish and generally enjoy swapping tales and ideas about our sport over a beer. I'm putting this thread out there to see if there are any like minded souls from the area (Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire) who might be interested in such a club. I've never done this before so I'm very open to ideas and suggestions from interested parties. Cheers......Robin

robin, i would imagine it would be difficult to get people to commit to joining a club without water to fish, as for the flytying you can go along to the FDG meeting at the flowerpot pub in henley and learn there. there may even be a meeting closer to you(checkout the website). ACW on this forum organises grayling days on the kennet at denford and always welcomes newcomers. this forum can be used as a club, you can organise fishing days, area meets and general social events and your invitation reaches 100's if not 1000's of people. i just feel the club route could mean more time running the club rather than enjoying your fishing and tying. good luck, jon.

Try the Houghton club in Stocksbridge - based at the Grosvenor Hotel (01264 810 606). Give them a ring and ask for an application form

Try the local fly dressing guilds such as the err, Kennet Valley I think they're called, thay seems to be the main focus for fly fishing meets in the area.

Robin,

Please do not create multiple threads on the same subject. I have merged one thread that also had replies but have deleted the other.

Thanks

There's some fishing run by a small syndicate (Pang Flyfishers I think) near Bradfield just outside Reading. They also used to have some water on the Lambourn - the latter used to be very good, but they lost access to some of the water and I don't know what they have left. Search the forums - there's at least one person on here that fishes the Pang.

Hallo,

I'd certainly be interested and being in the vicinity more than happy to give it a go.

I have some good ideas on a way to proceed.

Many now famous clubs, if not most started thus, funnily I've been thinking along similar lines being currently a member of a club run by a bunch of ignorant, stupid weazles, though I mustn't name it.
