Default Fresh Duck Wings

Hi

I have been given a couple of freshly shot ducks wings, could anyone tell me how I go about preserving them? I have read so many conflicting things this morning... its made the old 'noggin spin!

Thanks

Jim

Hi Minitrail, make a cut along the fleshiest part of the wing towards the shoulder on the under(whiteside) of the wing. Get as much of the flesh out as possible, pack it with Borax, leave it for a week or so, clean out the cavity and put more borax in, wait another week or two, everything should have dried out by then and either into the freezer for 24 hours min or the microwave 10 - 15 seconds and that should see you right.

Three easy ways -

i) Get them immediately into a warm airflow( I use my gas fired blow central heater in the unit ) and dry them fast.

ii) Get a hypodermic and some formalin and inject into the meat !

iii) Pair up opposing useful feathers ( rubber band at the quill ends ) and take them off the wings and put them in packets - and throw the scrap away . That is also the only way you are likely to get genuinely paired quills . All Trade supply arrives in a heap of lefts and rights and the poor old dealer does his best and your chance of getting a genuine pair is singularly low ! Believe me !!

Beware of piggybacking creepie crawlies that shooting friends don't understand - but you will when they eat the rest of your feathers!

Thanks for the advice so far everyone, i think i may just seperate the feathers and band them together to ensure i have pairs... this way i dont have to worry about the skin...
