Default Sedge

I know it's a bit early for sedges but I had a few places to fill in my boxes so I tied a few of these up this evening.....

The dressing is a follows...

Hook - Dry Fly 10 - 14 (Mick Weaver sz12 in this case)
Thread - Olive Uni 8/0
Egg Sack - Chartreuse lite brite
Body - Squirrel, well picked out
Hackle - Brown CDC in a dubbing loop, fairly sparse
Horns - Cock Pheasant tail fibres x 2
Wing - Light blue hair net coloured with olive and brown markers, when dry it's attacted to stips of cellotape where its flocked with squirrel then put into a wing burner and shaped to fit.

No hassles my man, the hair net might seem be bit strange but the reason I prefer to use it, to say a tea bag, which has a similar feeling and effect is because the hair net has a similar look of the natural veining and gives the wing a bit more substance, hopes this makes sense

This was one of the first flies of this style of wing that I tied up. It worked but the wing gave up the ghost way too soon with the feather fibre seperating from the tape ruining the fly. The latest version lasts much longer and to my eye looks better.

Derek , very clever idea .

I am yet to tie any sedges . I was going to have a bash at the teabag one as there is an SBS on here that looks good and easy to follow . Your way is another good one I think . Makes me wonder what else could be used .......

Realy nice fly derek
i have tried a similar version when the capers are hatching but i also find the wing gets destroyed after a couple of fish.Hard to beat a good old G&H sedge.
