Default JT's Balloon Caddis & Stimulator

After watching JT's 'Small Stream Trout Fishing' DVD which is excellent by the way I wanted to tie up the patterns on the DVD but I'm having trouble tracking down the poly yarn in the colours used on the balloon caddis and stimulator variant so I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions of what poly yarn to use or any alternatives that could be used instead. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Or maybe the man himself could advise

Hi Troutbhoy,
I used light orange polyprop for the caddis. I think its a Wapsi product. Try flyonly-online (that's where I got my last lot from)...
The stimmy variant uses tan for the shuck and grey for the underwing.
Happy tying mate and glad you enjoyed Small Streams...
JT

Thanks for the quick reply JT, I will try to get those colours now. Just a quick question, when fishing larger rivers would you fish the duo & dry fly close quarters as demo'd on the DVD or would you generally fish a longer line?

I'm waiting for the 'Early Season Trout Fishing' DVD to arrive, I love fishing the dry & spiders so I'm really looking foward to seeing how the master JT uses these techniques & of course his brilliant tyings, the JT Olive in particular.

My suggestion would be to fish as short a line as you can without scaring the fish or making them aware of your presence. On larger rivers it is always preferable IMO to wade into position and make a short cast than to stand in the wrong place a chuck a long line...
