Default Double Trouble Olive

Greater minds than mine cottoned on a long time ago, and exploited the power and potency of claret based flies in an olive hatch...Mallard & Claret, for example. Best not to wonder why, just go with it... and catch fish!

Here's a cheeky little rascal I knocked up whilst I was in the mood for a bit of wet-winging. Loosely based on the afforementioned Mallard & Claret, only here, I've put a blae/grey Jay wing in place of the traditional Mallard, and then I kind of 'semi-dabbled' it with a few whisps of bronze mallard. The idea with the 'semi-dabbling' was primarily to try and keep a little air underneath the loose cloak, and also to give the Jay wing a bit of breathing space, and a little more prominance. I just tied a few mallard fibres in as a 'throat', and a couple of small bunches either side, and just below the wing.

Hope you like....

So it's a claret dabbler!

Funny you should mention claret during an olive hatch Rob, about 5 years ago I was fishing on Loch Fada, the smaller of the Storr Lochs on Skye, during a very heavy Mayfly hatch, I was throwing every bit of armour from my box that would normally have produced the goods, but no, not even an offer, then I thought sodd it, and put a Claret Ice hog that had done well for me on Harray loch the week before and I couldnt keep them off it
Cheers
Gerry

Aye, I've heard the same can apply to a Mayfly hatch too Gerry. It's along while since I've fished in a good mayfly hatch though... Might have to pop up to the Storr's and investigate
