Default Whip finish/hair stacker?

Well, its been held together with tape for a month but my Stonefly whip finishing tool has finally bitten the dust.

I cannot afford to replace at the moment, I am assuming there must be an easy-ish way of doing it by hand but sites Ive looked at don't make it clear exactly how. Can anyone explain/point me in the right direction?

Also starting to work with deer hair, is there a DIY stacker solution and how do you get the tips out when lined up without messing them up again?

Sorry for the stupid questions thanks in advance

I've got a Veniards whip finisher - the type with a spring arm - can't remember how to use it so if it's any use to you PM your address and you can have it FOC

Any piece of tube the right size will do for stacking hair, I use a section of brass tube, but a bit cut from a biro is OK for small bunches. Just cut the tube so it's a bit longer than half the length of the deer hair. Put a bunch in the tube and gently tap the tips level, there should be enough poking out to get a hold of for tying in - it's much easier to do than explain.

I will be going to Sportfish in the next couple of days, to buy a stacker. If you pm me your address I will get you one aswell. Think of it as a late Xmas present. Also I have some diagrams of how to whip finish by hand, I will put them in an evelope and send them to you.

Very kind, generosity on forum never ceases to amaze,

Oldfart - you have a PM

Anjinsan - Will make the same offer to you as I did to Oldfart. Let me know what type of flies you tie and I will send you back by return some materials, i have chenille, fritz, marabou, bits and bobs i dont use much so especially if you tie any lures etc I will have spare stuff, or will send an assortment of other bits.
Would much rather send something back to you than take without reciprocating.

Cheers
