Another of your lovely flies!

I notice that in this and some of your other 'comparadun' style CDC wings that you don't fan the CDC out to a full 180 degrees. Obviously your flies will sit a bit lower than mine do and I just wondered what the advantages of this are.

I fan mine to the full 180 degrees because I saw it as as such in the books/online and figured it would create a good footprint and stabilise the fly too. Or maybe I am producing something more spinner-like?

And thanks for the inspiration I get and am sure plenty others do, from your post in here and on your website!

... and for ours down here This is for those evenings when the fish are slathering duns - I find a huge amount of fun in fishing a big fly and watching them go nuts

Oh for a warm summer evening with a hatch...

Andy, you are quite correct and your fully fanned wing will work well. I like to allow the body of these to do some of the work - a little dilly wax helps - but you are corret that this will fish low in the water.

For the higher riding dun patterns, I opt for the CDC Dun:

For the spinner, if you like using CDC aim for something along the lines of:

Thanks for the feedback

Nice. Is that enough tail to support the rear of that hook in the surface film?

I agree it is sparse and I would rarely fish such a brute but...

The same goes for the tails and it all holds up perfectly well

Thanks for the reply Dave,

Much appreciated. I must tie a few up in different styles and see how I get on with them though my local Spey brownies are probably not the fussiest wee bu**ers on the planet! But there is that odd one who steadfastly ignores the same offerings the others accept . . .. And my occasional trips to the Upper Clyde.
