I took a few fish last season on a bloody butcher fished VERY early in the mornings when I was stalking fish hitting fry in the shallow bays on Lough Sheelin .

Several other variants which have worked well for me are the Canary Butcher, same as the Silver but with a yellow hackle and the Sailor Butcher which has a Cambridge Blue hackle.

I think these are Irish varants but cannot find corroboration. Will ask Ted Malone next week, if anyone knows, he does

I love the silver butcher, it is my point fly of choice on a 3 fly cast.
Ist just a pity the wing tends to get messed up very quickly.

Great stuff Alan I enjoyed that
After my 1st fly of a black pennell when i started this was the 2nd one I tried and it gave me problems due to the wing and I think it may still be in the bruck box as a reminder of how not to tie it
