It would be nice to see these Stickied into a dedicated section of the Fly Tying Forums called The Classics. Ideally, in this section only Admin could start a new thread (i.e. by shifting a 'classic' thread (when deemed suitable) from here to there). Others could post in these threads but not start new threads. Over time we'll develop a rather nice reference section that doesn't get buried in other stuff, cr@p or otherwise.

Good idea, but I think Ben should have final say on this as it is his baby.

It would be great if the list was made as a sticky with links to the actual SBS threads, a bit like what has been done on the "other" forum

I started the Classics threads as I thought it would be a great way to learn more about the patterns that I used most. The response I got to the early threads was fantastic and all the effort that was put in was more than rewarded with lots of tales and variants shared by others.

It's great that others have decided to produce their own, and that it may have provided some enjoyment and info for others.

However I do think that in order to get the best out of the threads that a fair amount of effort has to be put in. IMO there should be some history, its important the pattern's are tied correctly with the right materials and its worth including a few variants that have worked. It takes me several weeks to sort out a classic thread as I'm still a relative newbie at fly fishing and would hate to be providing duff info for a reference based thread. I do believe though that the more effort put in, then the more people are prepared to give back.

Unfortunately I'm an bit of a fussy type, and it annoys me that they are not being kept 100% consistent but as long as people are enjoying them then that's all that matters.

I don't really mind about a separate forum space, if even just the thread titles stay consistent for example - The Classics: Black Buzzer then they are easy to search for.

I'm currently preparing the Black Buzzer and Green Peter but I still have a number of enquires and facts to straighten out before posting.

Cheers
Ben

I think it would be a shame to see things like this get buried and archived.

Even the SBS section gets heavily watered down by misplaced threads, some poor quality SBS (ok line me up against the wall and shoot me now but I really do think the gems get lost in some very 'average' stuff) or good quality SBSs of poor flies etc.

So I think for your efforts to be appropriately rewarded, a stickied section is well worth considering with Admin.

A sticky with them would be good. Could get all the links in maharg's first post and see if admin will sticky this thread so there all in one place. And could add to the post as more Classics come along.
