Default 3 wt Mayfly spinner

Click the image to open in full size.

thread; hot orange/red
wing; black bucktail
body; waspi super fine water proof dry fly dubbing
thorax mess; pine squirrel (or hares ear).
rib: very fine copper wire
Tail extension: raffia
tail; pheasants tails
hook; whatever 8 or 10's are knocking around.

The wing on the photo is awfull i have run out of un clipped black bucktail and miss the tapered natural tips. This is what i could scrape up.!

The name is because of numerous threads recently saying that 3wts are not the best all round small stream rods.
The reason being you cant cast mayflies.... this pattern doesn't give me a problem on a 3wt........ Though the 0wt does admitedly struggle with them, I still use them in that combination.

Admitedly they are slightly smaller than the naturals, and if your finding the wing strange , it is my attempt to imitate the wings of the ephemera vulgata on our brook, whose veinings are like black stained glass windows.

Nice WP.

What is that at the start of the tail, the grey with red stuff?

I mix three colours of dubbing together and try and blend it so it gets slightly darker up the fly... lazily on this it was just the start of the dub that had little yellow in it. The red tip is thread, I nearly always leave an orange /red tag as a trigger point.
I think ( god forbid Ron CLay see's this and i am wrong..) Richard walker sugested it is good as an extra target, whether it makes any difference???? its no effort to include it.
I just whizzed down to the vice and snapped this... hope it shows it better
