Default Uses for Kamasan B420 sedge hooks?

On impulse, I bought some of these hooks and am now not sure what to do with them. They seem a little bit heavy for emerger patterns. Certainly, the elk hair emerger I tied on one sank like a stone, but that's not necessarily the hook's fault! They're a decent shape for buzzer patterns but my box is already stuffed with buzzers. What do you guys tie on these hooks?

Cheers,

Neil

Buzzers, suspender buzzers, half hogs, snatchers would be good on them. Nice strong hook....hoppers too spring to mind and of course sedge pupa for which they were intended.

B420's are normally the hook for Octopuss patterns IIRC.

I tied a few buzzers on them a few years back, mainly for fishing under the bung, as I thought that the hook shape gave the buzzer a chance to sit at a better angle when static, more like the natural when rising & falling, but I don't think the 'angle of the buzzers dangle' is THAT important....

Thanks guys. For some reason, I thought they were intended for emerging or dry sedges (doh!) but of course, sedge pupa would be perfect. Coming back into this lark after a while away, I'll have fun looking up and trying out the other patterns. Cheers,

Neil

The Kamasan B420 and Daiichi 1150 are the same hooks and I use them for all patterns. They are also popular bait hooks with the steelheaders in North America and are also sold as Raven Sedges as you can see on this page: terminal tackle

I haven't seen this in Kamasan/Daiichi's, but there are Raven Sedge "Supreme" red hooks which I use for bloodworm patterns:

Hi pal Happy New Year to you Heres a wee stoater thats caught me hundreds of trout over the years and on one particular session at BROOM FISHERY it was ridiculous The fly itself was simple but as COCKWILL says in this months mag ,quite often the most simple tyings are the deadliest. Anyway the tying was KAMASAN 420 size 16s and 14s. TAN THREAD,SPARSE DUBBED HAIRS EAR DUBBING BODY,FINE PEARL RIB,AND A WEE TUFT OF WHITE ANTRON AND PHEASANT TAIL THORAX COVER. Cast out and let the wind do the rest Ive tied small shuttles on them and although they ARE heavy iron ,at that size it doesnt really come into it and they cock the pattern nicely and had great success on them.YELLOW OWL The other reason was i used to fish B100s and they straightened alot and maybe just me but like all anglers once its in your head good luck

as well as using them on Dry sedges I have also used these hooks to tie dry daddy-long leg patterns. Seem to do work ok. Never had a problem.

I use these hooks exclusively for shuttlecocks on large stillwaters
