Default getting started

How expensive is it to start up fly tying? and what basic equipment would one need in order to start up?

it can be as expensive or as cheap as you like, you will obviously need a vice,bobbin holder, whip finisher and a decent pair of scissors. then you just buy the materials you need for the flies you want to tie. i reckon you could be tying flies from scratch for 40 or 50 quid. jon mcmillan.

Here is a great article for anyone starting out flytying.

There is a wealth of information on that site and this, but IMHO I found joining a club the best way to start off.
