Default Early season salmon flies ? ?

is there such thing as a favoured colour / pattern of fly for attracting salmon early in the year ? My first trip is on the tay on the 15th and if im not standing on the bank like a frozen snotter , i hope to be fly fishing .

iv tied afew flies for taking but iv been reading that green is a good early season attractor , has anyone got any info or experience on early season salmon fishing that could advise me ? size , colour ?

Contact the Ghillie.

Not only on flies , but rod/line requirements too.

you'll probably want to tie them on a range of copper tubes, as youll need to get down deep. Id say thinks like the black and yellow, cascades, monkeys

I'd probably be content wi' a big one ( 3 or 5 Salar double )of these

followed closely by an equally large one of these

both fished off a relatively fast sinking head (light fly/ fast sinking line ) , or one of these

tied on various sizes of copper tubes and fished off a slower sinker / sink tip.

Horses for courses really.
Not all springers lie in the deepest or fastest water.
