Thumbs up The Clan Chief

Hi Guys

This is a pattern "i" discovered this summer, first time i tied it i now realise i have been missing out I tied mine as you can see below i use Rook instead of black hen for the head hackle and on a size 10 B175 (barb crushed)

It has proved very popular with the wildest brown trout and escapee rainbows i simply love this pattern it looks so good, to date ive only used it in size 10 normally on top dropper with with a Lever spider or unweighted damsel on the point in a two fly team whilst float tubing.

My question today is what sizes do you find "most" effective ?? And what position on your cast ?? Im assuming top dropper ??

Ive found it deadly fished almosty "static" very slow fig 8 for rainbows to long pulls that the wild browns just couldnt resist

It has to be one of my favorite top dropper patterns...............a modern classic !

Well i do mainly surface work these days and thats the sort of pattern i would be tying and in size 10. Most patterns i use have a green tag on them even my buzzers ive been trying lately.

Geordie.

I tend to fish it either on the top or middle dropper and usually on a size 12 and it certainly takes fish.

I've never used Rook before. Where off the bird do you take your hackles from?

The CC is a great fly. Definately in my top 5 wets. I fish it on the top dropper usually. Size 10 seems to be the optimum size, but I will confidently fish it in size 12. When tying it in size 12, I change the floss tail out for natural and dyed red GP topping.
