Default Zulu "Gold"

Hi Guys

Had a bash at tying Gold Zulu's i.e Zulu with gold rib Zulu's are a pattern ive not really tied before and fish rarely, i think due to the cheap nasty shop bought ones i failed to catch on when i first started fly fishing.

I used Rook for the softer head hackle and im happy with that not sure if the tails are too long ?? and im wondering if it might fish better if more sparsely palmered ??

The Gold Zulu is a very different fly from the standard Zulu. Tail remains the same, but the body is bronze peacock herl ribbed with flat gold tinsel, and the hackle is Coch-y-Bonddu (Dark Furnace at a pinch). Works well as a middle dropper fly.

I agree with you that the tail is slightly too long. What type of wool did you use? It looks good.

The amount of hackle looks good for a nice wave. You could tie a few with less, giving you a better option in calmer conditions.

I like those Englander Would concur on the tail... slightly heavy. Still nice tie though.

While I agree with gander that the real Gold Zulu is as he described, I always found that a Zulu ribbed with flat gold was superior to one ribbed with flat silver.
