I just use the lid off a Magic Marker, and give it a bang on the desk. They are wide enough to put your finger in and slide the hair it out.
I have never felt the need for a proper hair stacker although if there's one out there that is invaluable to tier's then I may be persuaded.

have to agree with ben, ,
you could cut down a old permanent marker and use that, their wide enough and can be taped over to make it look all nice, lol

god forbid ben , i dont think its possible to improve on your flies with a purpose built stacker,

you cant improve on perfection mate!!!

The case replacement pencil leads are supplied in. Pentel I think. Cut the case 10 to 15mm below the lid with a hacksaw. Hair goes into the open end tap on the table and take the lid off to access the tips of the stacked hair.
Only works for small flies but that's all I need it for.

For bigger hair bunches I guess some scrap copper pipe and a blank soldering end would give the same effect.

Hi Danny,i made a stacker out of an old lipstick tube, but found that it had to much static and would'nt release the fibres proper,so i bought a brass cheapo one £4.85 and it really does make a difference,

Hope this helps

Celtic Flycraft have one for £2.20. It hardly seems worth the effort trying to make one when they are that cheap?

I just bought one from Mullarkey's for £1.75. 10% off if you buy today (24th December) or tomorrow with code NS09. P&P on top of that of course but I bought a couple of other things too.

I bought the cheapest i could find from GAC for a couple quid i think. Does the job perfectly well but before i bought that i just used the central hole in the spool of thread. Take a spool, stick the hair in and bang it on the table.

An old Shotgun cartridge casing could be put to good use. Even a brass rifle casing come to think of it.
