Default Porcupine Quill - Any uses?

Does this material have any use in mainstream fly tying? I've seen some lovely flies with legs made from this product in Realistics but not many examples elsewhere.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how to use pocupine quills in fleas?

Clearing the eye? Or try tying big bunches in for a large sedgehog.... You'll need a big hook though. Careful though Chris... I think maybe the guy in yer avatar had an accident with a quill

They are dangerous items. The avatar guy had an accident, not going to say anything about a small indentation in the skin, with a mascara bottle I am told.

I read here

HF - Porcupine Quills ! at BEARSDEN.COM

they were recommended for extended bodies but I am not sure the trout enjoy darts!

Try it as the body of a 'Once and away'. Also for buzzers!

Thanks Toby

Loopy,

I use them mainly for bodies in place of the usual quill.

A few examples:
