Default Cormorant wings- Fur or feather

What is the preferred wing material now for cormorants?
Is it still black maribu or as I have been witnessing lately, flies tied with artic fox and rabbit and other exotic furs.
What is the preferred length of wing as I have seen them tied long and most recently tied short not unlike posts.
With so many body variants, are these flies still cormorants, maribu, silver wire and peacock heril?.

Davie Mc Phail demonstrates an Irish Cormorant and uses Bronze Mallard. Another variation!

When tying the original and close variants, I use the tips of marabou plumes, nothing beats the pulsating movement imho, although I have seen some extreme yet quite superb variants.

Mine are all comp legal size, I rarely fish big flees.

Sum peeps use too much marabou, then the cormorant becomes a mini lure

Quite right Ali,

IMO, The cormorant is that fly that makes the transition from Nymph to Lure, and should be dressed with that in mind... Sparse is good, but not overdressed!

Wings I have used are, Black Hen Fibres, from the large feathers of a hen cape, Bronze mallard, Arctic Fox, Marabou Tips, Rabbit, Deer Hair and Mink on the smaller dressings, #14's etc.

Sleek and slender is the 'MO' of the cormorant, so I tend to got for 'Bou Tips and Mink for my patterns.

Yup, they end up looking like Viva varients!

They need to be more sparse.

In answer to your original question,

That sounds as good as any cormorant George, the less fancy they are the better I would reckon.
