Default Seals Fur Caddis

I only realised recently that I tend to use a whole different batch of tying materials for my river flies compared to stillwater flies. Until I tried my hand at tying stillwater wets a few months ago, I hardly possessed any seals fur, tinsels, non-genetic hackles etc at all. My river dries are invariably dubbed using Masterclass, Superfine and the like......which is a shame, because seals fur is such a translucent, busy looking material that I'm beginning to think it must have a place when tying straggly emerger patterns on rivers. After all it's no secret that patterns such as Shipmans, Bits etc are amongst the deadliest stillwater patterns ever devised.

I'm sure some of you out there have tried something similar....but it just never occurred to me until recently. Doh.

very nice matt very pupae-ry looking

don't want to put a downer on it but are you sure those hooks are varivas 2200's? They look a bit thick in the wire, more like B100's or similar.

Yep it's a 2200. I don't use much else for me emergers these days (just don't tell Buzz that though, he'll have a coronary).

The template I was working on was balloon caddis....without the balloon. So caddis in mind, but I spose it will serve when there are a few terrestrials dropping onto the water......
