There will be many, many suggestions. Take a look in the SBS section as there are some excellent tutorials there.

My suggestion to start though would be here:
River Fly Box, Tying Czech Nymphs, Shrimps, Gammarus

Cheers,

I've pink tungsten beadheads work well. I dub the rear of the body with a shrimp pink dubbing and the front dark gray. You can get the beads from Tungsten beads . co . UK. They are really good supplier and have a great range. The tungsten shrimp backs are good too but they are super heavy and suitable for deep pools.

hes already said hares ear mate...

Try a leadhead/jig caddis- this works well for me in early grayling season, where theres still a few caddis left in there cases. A big pattern that won't put the fish off.

Thanks all, some really good hints here.

i will start to look arouns and see what Dave can offer on his site also.

I have ordered a new rod and reel too so would be good to have some new flies to go with it.

thanks for all your support

Happy fishing!!

Jacko

For fast sinking hooks, I use adhesive lead foil cut into a long triangle and rolled onto the hook. I find this gives a good profile and is very inexpensive compared to special hooks.
