Default buzzers without breathers

heya

I am reading a book on trout fishing (sorry i cant remember the name and author at the minute and i cant be bothered to go ALL the way upstairs, i will post it later) and the guy states that he would "never use a buzzer imitation that did not have the white breather filaments incorporated into it". His reason being that natural buzzers do have the filaments so therefore any imitations should have them as it would be an important recognition point for the trout. I have looked through google images and a few websites and all the photos of actual buzzers in the nymph stage do have the white filaments (maybe i have not looked enough and may be overlooking something.... My question is that there are a lot of imitation buzzers on the market that do not have the breathers so they must also catch fish and therefore how important do YOU think the breathers are in a buzzer tying? If you had to make a choice for with or without which would you go for and why?

To be honest I wouldn't be without either, I like to have the choice, if I want to slow down the descent I can gink the breathers and if I think a fly should be without them, it's just a matter of cutting the breathers off.

I think its six of one and half a dozen of the other, I would dearly love to see proof where one will out fish the other.

I don't think it matter too much. I don't think think the breathers show up if viewed from below the buzzer against a grey or cloudy sky. Perhaps more important if seen against weed or bottom. But bead head buzzers work well fished deep without breathers.

I don't own a single buzzer with breathers on it and seem to catch my fair share on them.

Midge pupae only develop breathers in the top foot or so; therefore not entirely necessary.

I have no Buzzers in my box with breathers and still catch plenty on them at varying depths.

As no one answered your question... to wrapped up in themselves!! I will tell you that in my opinion as a river man who gets giddy at the expanse of a cess pit, and therefore knows nowt.

With a single buzzer, You use a long leader and grease it up to the last 1' and once it is cast out. You bring the line back REALLY slowly just keeping in touch with the fly( not allowing slack to develop).
Now will one of you still water gurus correct me please and give this newcomer to your pastime some advice!!

By the way flies in the post tomorrow ... there are quite a few buzzers with breathers and without!
