Very nice.. and one that can go on the official list of imitatives (according to Marmalade)

In a few sizes I assume that would cover pretty much everything?

Well it works for me. As with all flies, if you have confidence in them you'll have a getter chance of success.

I don't tend to go much lower than a #18 for proper 'spinner' imitations. Below perhaps a #12 I may be tempted to use Coq de Leon for the tails too.

Cheers,

Now that is art, the last snap looks like the wee blighter is on its last legs.
Your clever, that wee separator at an angle so you have a sighter.
Very original and very good imo.

Beautiful fly as always Dave, I assume it is meant to lie on it's back on the water, to show the foot print.
How confident are you that it will do this, after a backcast, or am I completely off the mark, or does it not matter.

Kind words Buzz. I'm glad you like the pattern.

Thanks Steven.

Actually, I had tied it to fish in the usual way. With the clipped CDC under the wing to make the thorax, and with a little Dilly wax on the tails, the fly will float with just the hook point submerged - hopefully giving the required footprint. As Mark points out the tuft of CDC acts as a sighter too - much in the same way as the loop emerger does.

As for the photo, the fly is positioned to show the underside: the 'fish-eye view'.

If it did land the incorrect way though, I wouldn't worry too much. In fact, even if it sinks eventually, I'll fish it and just watch the leader for takes.

Thanks for the kind words,
Dave.

Buzz said it, that truly is art.

A cracker of a pattern and one that looks enjoyable to tie.

Very very nice
