Default The New Wafty and Tied to Modern Precepts

Here's the New Wafty. Abysmally tied - a touch too difficult for me on an 18. However, the hook is completely invisible. You can't see it anywhere. Don't anybody say different. You may see something that looks like a hook, but it isn't. Trust me, I was there.

The CDC hackle is tied into the gape, and the head was finished by just running away and hoping.

The fly would fish point high, head facing upstream

Hook: 18 barbless partridge
Tail: hackle middle bit, tied in a loop and snipped
Silk: green, just because it was in the bobbin. For the life of me I can't get it to split and I've no idea what it is. It came with the Marco Polo kit I've got. What is a good general purpose silk?
Body: hackle middle bit. As a note, I like to use the huge hackles that come with a cape and can't be used for much else. I strip them down.
Hackle: CDC on a dubbing loop
Head: Hope and a half hitch. I've not worked out how to get a head on yet.

Fished it? It's a work of art! It's going on the wall..

Um, not yet!

I bet you anything it lands upside down and the wrong way round..

Art - yep it certainly looks like some bird's missing eyebrows have been used wisely!

Saying that, with the lack of 'skill' this end it wouldn't make any difference which way round it's set up (might give one a go next season though none-the-less).

Presume it's not all that solid without a head on a barbless - mine would unravel in no time?

Thanks! A little more CDC control and some more thought on the most effective way to tie it and I'll be there.

Next time I may tie the head first, go to the eye, tie in tail and body, go half way, do hackle, do body and tie off at thorax point.. Whipping a head was interesting to say the least.

I really need silk I can split - using the C&F dubbing tool is driving me up the wall. Useless piece of rubbish :-)
