Default Jay feathers.

I have just received a Jay from a friend.
Apart from the obvious feathers on the wings is there any other feathers i should keep from it?

Thanks

Munro

As it's a corvid you could try some of the 'nape' feathers - might make interesting hackles for spiders in the way of a Jackdaw. The under covert feathers might also be useful in the same way.

It does look like some of the neck feathers would make nice hackels, they have a nice pink shine to them.

Hi
The light brown marginal under coverts are a very good substitute for dotterel feathers in tying the dotterel spider. Not many of them but usually a good colour match.

Tight lines
