yes i,ve used solder it,s not quite as heavy, but it works fine. may need a dab of superglue it has a tendancy to turn on the shank.

I actually had been thinking of adding a base of liquid solder using a soldering iron. Other option is galvanised steel wire. not sure which is heavier.

Lead from a wine bottle cut into thin strips. This is getting rarer now, with all these screw-caps around but one might have one lying around in one's cellar?

Merry Chrishmash!

I'd just build up with a base of fine copper wire if I ran out of lead.

I've actually used tungsten putty... really neat stuff especially on tubes. I've covered the section of tube I want to use with ultra fine glitter and then placed a piece of Heavy Metal on and dip that in the glitter and then encapsulate that... you can either do it immediately with epoxy (or in my case I use light cured resin) OR get mylar tube and feed it over the top and do same final step... much more solid!

Hello,
Copper density: 8.92 lead: 11.35
you can use copper instead of lead, an advantage, copper wire is widely available.

Sharky
Otaining wine bottle lead would mean one would have to drink a whole bottle of 1989 Bordeux by himself. Will go with the copper idea have plenty around from old bits of cabling salvaged from a ouse rewire.

If you go down this route you might affect the temper of the metal and end up with soft hooks. Try one first
