Put a hook on it and it becomes a dry fly, think of it as fishing the duo.......if it eases the pain
Hook - B175 #12
Dressing - Deer Hair dyed Orange or Lime Green or White or ............
Thread - Unithread Neon 1/0 to match

Take a bunch of hair and tie in as a tail.
Tie in another bunch in front sedgehog style
And another, and another, etc. etc. to the eye, build a head, whip finish and varnish head.
Trim from the underside, upwards in a V shape, so it sits hook down.
Douse in Permaflote or Gink

Has the aerodynamics of a half-brick , but it sure works
For something that flies a little better, try the same with CDC, if you can afford it!!
Ronnie.

or you could just get a packing bubble, paint it some garish colour and stick a hook in it.

Englander,

This is what I use for fishing a dry/dropper combination for streams in Western Canada. The fly was created to act as a indicator for the small nymphs that were attached behind it. Curiously, the indicator fly caught a lot of fish and finally became known as the CFF or 100 fish fly after a single fly caught over 115 fish before it was taken and not returned by a large cutthroat. The fly has been effectively used on a number of spring creeks, streams and rivers for rainbows, browns and cuts.

Why it works is not really clear although holding it up to the light results in glints of light through the wing/tail. I'd suspect that this might look like the glints seen through insect wings.

The wing and tail are macrame yarn in white for the wing and brown for the tail. The hackle is not really needed as the wing/tail float the fly very well. The body is herl & the hackle is coachman brown.

The fly was originally tied on a Mustad 94840 #12 but has since been used effectively in sizes down to #18. With the <16's, I don't add the hackle.

For a tutorial on indicators for all depths see my web page http://bamboorods.ca/indicators.html

regards,

Don
