Default Dull brown stone particles

Anyone know where I can buy something like this:

Virtual Nymph - Freestone Caddis Coating

but in a "dull brown" colour?

Default Dull Brown Stones

Try Hobbycraft in the Model Railway section. They sell a variety of colours which are used in track layouts.

Hi Steve,

I've seen chips of cork (as in wine bottles) used, really nice colour and effect. the fly in question had a dirty great lead bead at the head (or maybe the tail) to take the fly to the bottom of the river.

Cheers

Andy

Yeah I concur, Model shop is the place to start. Plenty of choice of colours & a lot cheaper than the one shown.

At the risk of sounding like a heretic shouldn't you just take a small scoop of stone/gravel your local river bed? Wash it dry it......
Match the hatch and all that.

I was just about to mention that idea.

You also get stick bait that do not use sand, they just sticks etc to form the case.

Exactly, every rivers cased Caddis is different depending on the make up of the river bed.

Good idea. I'll just pop on a plane and do a whirl around NZ, come back and tie some flies and then head back down there.

Now that's a stupid idea!

Why not phone a NZ builder's merchant and get them to send you a yard of sand. Simples.
