Default My Current Set Up

Just a few pics of my current set up using an Ikea Baby Changing unit purchased from fellow Forumite, I have been experimenting with the Nor-Vise and as can be seen in Photo still using a Snowbee Waldron.
Also just trying my new camera for close ups of Flys looks OK.

The Oak display case with my tools in it I have made locally with cut foam and velour insert also has toughened safety glass in lid, If anyone is interested in any of these I can get them for approx £45, they are ideal for displaying or storing all sorts of items, have solid brass locking catches on lid and hinges. All Handbuilt with Decent Oak.
Any comments critical of the Spinner in the Photos gratefully received, I am just about to start using CDC ala Buzz and his excellent video upload, I will post pics of my CDC Klinks as soon as I have tyed them

you asked for criticism.!!.... It's minor but at the other end of Northants that would be a bit chunky for a sherry spinner.
It's one of the few times that the trout here get 'fixed' on the spinners and wont touch out else. I have tried presenting heaps to a rising fish, then the skinniest in the box did the trick. (and then went on to catch another 5 before the light went).
Now when the sherries are falling it the real anorexic flys that come out.
I think its because she's half under the surface after losing the egg ball, And the trout are expecting a half submerged fly.with some solid out line under the surface rather than a dimpled mass upon the surface.

So for me, a I would trim the fuzz on that body tight before hackling, and then half or even a third the amount of hackle, and trim it under.
And finally a really skinny couple of wisps for tails, to allow them to penetrate the surface rather than riding high.
However at your end of the county..... who knows they may like them tubby!

Very smart Martin, I like the oak chest as well.
How come you are still using the Snowbee, is the Norvise aking a bit of getting used to. ?
Knowing you, I suppose your workdesk always looks that tidy.
Fly looks tidy too, keep up the good work.

Default Feedback

The Oak chest at back is a Gerstner available in UK through Orvis.
I am getting on very well with Nor-Vise but the fine point jaws IMHO are a must thats what is fitted into it at the moment.
Whingeing Pom thanks for your feedback and I will take on board a lighter dressing of this fly, I do tye them down to size 16 at the moment these tend to have a thinner dressing.
I am hoping to get time over the weekend to tye with CDC so I will post my results Sunday night.
Steven my desk I always try and just prepare the tools and materials I need for each fly, complete my tying then put anything else away, this is an exception for me as My Garage looks a disgrace with clutter everywhere and My Boys MX gear and Bike in various states of disrepair / preparation for the race at the week ends.
Regards,
Martin

How do you get all your stuff to fit in that chest? I've collected so much cr@p that I'd need 3 or 4 of them!!

Lovely Martin, the vice looks familiar

The only bit that spoils it is that blooming helios tube in the background

Me too! I have a 'chest' that i made over 30 years ago, not oak tho, marine ply. It is absolutely crammed to the point that many items are 'stored' on top of it!
Also have 4 LARGE Tesco plastic boxes stuffed with capes and various bird and animal skins!
Still, it all saves on having to buy flies don't it? ;-(
