Default Book advice

Hi all

My Dad has asked for suggestions for a christmas present and i think i would quite like to suggest a fly tying book. Any suggestions on which book would be helpful for a guy looking to progress his tying (i have only been tying about 7 months), preferably like it to include some stillwater and river patterns aimed mainly at trout.

There is a sea of books out there that i will undoubtedly collect some of but a few pointers on where to start would be greatly appreciated.

Dan

So Dad would like a book on flytying and he already ties flies and wants to progress and is looking at trout patterns.

I don't know what books your old man has or has read so I would go for something slightly unusual which may excite him. I would be tempted to suggest an Amrican publication maybe something along the lines of:-

Fly Tying with A. K.: Patterns and Problem Solving with New Materials and Techniques on sale currently at £16.00.

If you go to

Fly Tying with A. K.: Patterns and Problem Solving with New Materials and Techniques: Amazon.co.uk: A.K. Best: Books Fly Tying with A. K.: Patterns and Problem Solving with New Materials and Techniques: Amazon.co.uk: A.K. Best: Books

Then you get a glimpse of what is inside and thus helping you decide if he would enjoy this book which has sumptious photos and good techniques and maybe a slightly different take on some of the flies. Plus of course whether you would enjoy it or not afterwards.

Dan, this book is a very substantial bible of fly patterns from all around the world! Fishing Flies by Malcolm Greenhalgh, 472 pages. Available from approx £30 full price to about £20 on 'special offer'.
Get it from thebookpeople.co.uk for £9.99, but postage is a massive £1.75! ;-) Mainly trout flies, but also salmon, sea trout, saltwater and other species, pike etc. Postage is very quick too!
OK, so it doesn't take you through the basics, but it is defo a brilliant resource for later on! At this price it is an absolute bargain, hundreds of patterns!
Highly recommended!
P.S. i have no financial interest, i recently bought the book, and was well impressed!
