thats a bit of a suprise, pretty much all of the fly tying shops I know sell it! Hares masks have the better guard fur but the body fur is easier to use.

Try here;

Fly Tying Materials Furs Fly Fishing Flies FastMail Tackle

Cookshill Fly Tying Materials (as mentioned above)

Hare - Lakeland Fly-Tying Limited

Celtic flycraft Masks

Flytying Boutique - for unusual and interesting materials

I've used all these sites and can thoroughly reccomend each one, but I've only bought the masks from lakeland and body fur from fastmail.

Hi

I would get it from cookshill, without doubt the best quality place to buy natural materials.

If you get 1 mask and 2 body pieces that should be enough, on ordering ask steve to give you body pieces from different parts of the body which should give you more variation in shades.

dont bother with premixed hares dubbing, a waste of money.

Took me years to fathom that one out. Absolutely agree.

All

Is premixed really that bad?

Whilst this is all I have, I find there arent the nice 'sticky out bits' that give it the nice buggy look.

When using the hares mask and other bits of fur, do you just pull it out and 'mix it' together to give a good blend?

Many thanks

Ben

aye ben, just pull your fur off the skin and mix it by hand- just vary the amount of under fur (the soft stuff) and the guard hair (stiff stuff) to suit. The more guard hair you use the buggier it will look but it won't dub on as well.

I use hare masks but also use the argentinian hare from Phil Holding which is great quality.
I also find that squirrel is a good compromise if you want nice spikey looking flies.
