Default egg fly help!

been having a bit of trouble tying egg flies
one problem being you can clearly see where the thread base secures the yarn onto the hook shank once finished.
any useful hints anyone is willing to share would be very much appreciated

Anyone tried them on jig hooks?

Has the weight to trundle along the bottom without being snag-prone.

Select a wide gape hook of the desired size. Wind a short bed of strong white tying thread about a third of the way back from the eye of the hook. Cut 2-3 short lengths of egg yarn. Place the bundle of egg yarn on top of the hook shank. Take two turns of thread around the yarn and pull tight. The yarn should then flare out. Pull up the yarn and wind a few turns of thread under the yarn to help keep it above the hook. Tie off and apply varnish carefully to the thread. Then, with a sharp pair of scissors trim the flared yarn to shape. Try to keep the egg on top of the hook to keep the gape of the hook clear. If you want a weighted version, just slip a small tungsten bead onto the hook before tying.

Hope this helps.
