Just out of interest would you still use flies that were ar$e about face on lakes/loughs ??? I know your reasoning behind this method of tying for river fishing . To me they look strange as I don't fish rivers often . I think I would just feel more confident on the lough with them tied the usual way round , though I don't think the fish would much care either way .

Edit: After thought , with them tied the way you have above though I guess turn over might be better with the main part of the fly on the bend , furthest part of the hook away from where the line is knotted to the eye ??? O does it make any difference ???
HHHMMMMM to much much coffee , busy brain but not really getting anywhere ......

lots of questions there I will try and answer them! The reverse style is to try and imitate the way that the natural faces upstream, as the usual method of fishing dries is to cast and present them upstream. On a lake, this theory goes to pot, so whether it works or not it shouldnt make a difference.

Now the casting thing, I reckon you won't be able to tell the difference. This style does have its uses though, IMO it helps to sink the tippet, at least from the reverse emerger patterns I have used, and I think long, stiff tailed dries would be better accepted in to the mouth of a fish, especially something like a grayling if tied in reverse.

Hope this helps!

lovely stuff, its almost a finer, shorter version of hare, with even more markings. Great stuff for those smaller nymphs and dry fly thoraces. Will have to invest in a proper skin soon methinks!
