Thumbs up Fly tying kit

Hi
I'm looking for a basic fly tying set up that I can hopefully tie up some of the patterns I mainly use Montanas zonkers and other Lures and then possibly try some more traditional flies.

What im wondering is am I better buying one of the starter kits or should I buy things individually ie whats more cost effective ?

Lee

Buying the individual ingredients is a heck of a lot cheaper & more efficient.
You'll also get better quality items than those in kits which will make tying easier & give you confidence.

Lee, there are a few kits about, but there is no point buying one if half of whats in it is no good to you at the moment. what i would recommend is that you speak to someone like Neil Anderson at andersonangling, tell him what flies you want to be tying up and he will put a "kit" together that only contains exactly what you require to start tying the flies you use. here is a link to his website, or call him at the shop on 01307 466366 - you will find him very helpful.

Totally agree with Steve.

The best way to start tying (in my opinion) is to decide on a couple of flies you wish to start with, find out how they're tied then buy the best quality materials and hooks and give it a go.
The problem with tying kits is that they include materials that you might never use.

Well my main fly that seems to be working well is the Montana, so Id like to be able to tie these. I also fancy having a go at fly fishing for pike, perch and chub so Id like to be able to tie a few flies for that too.
