Default Start 'em young

I have just taken up tying my own flies after 3 years fly fishing and finding it very satisfying.

As always when you have kids they want to try everything you try. So it was that last night my daughter with minimal instruction tied her first fly. Now we just have to go and give it a try.....can't wait!

Good on her!!!!! My Nephew who is 7 attended the Parent and Child Day at Harelaw and had a go at Fly Tying thanks to Maharg, Wants a Vice and Fly tying materials for his xmas he loved it, But in his letter to Santa he asked for the jaggy hook things, feathers and the thing you use to twirl the feathers around the jaggy hook thing, ha ha. My bro had to phone and ask me what he was talking about

You must be very proud that your daughter has taken an interest.

I have no children of my own (that i'm aware of!) but i have two young nephews keen as mustard. It's great to see the young'uns being enthusiastic.

I can equal that !

( Sort of )

My daughter Eva co-tied her first fly the other day ( hook point taken off though ! ) with her day , and she was 4 only five weeks ago.

She was gagging to tie one ( but i'm hoping she'll leave me alone now for a while as have lits of flies to tie for 2010 season! )

You're right about that, but just to show that she does listen to what I say, she told me the pink was for the Grayling....

Hope to take her on the river next season, just trying to find somewhere to buy size 4/5 thigh waders.
